Reporting Period: Six Months
The project in hand is being implemented in Khartoum State. The project addressed mainly the issue of the limited educational opportunities that led to the very poor chances in self-development, capacity building, work opportunities and eventually poverty of young women with hearing disability. Those women are heavily affected by the current economic and security situation of Sudan. The project provided 21 young deaf women with the necessary training to enhance one or more of three skills: embroidery, glass painting, and textile printing. Gesr Center for Development worked in partnership with Khartoum State Deaf Union in implementing this project using the following working methods: Learning by doing, lectures on sign language, and group work.
2.1 Overall Project Objective
Training of twenty-one young deaf women in handcrafting in within Khartoum State the period between March-August of the 2014.
2.2 Specific Project Objective
1- Capacity building of each individual in the target group.
2- Help develop skills in project design including feasibility studies, financing and marketing.
3- Provide training skills for the target group to train other deaf women.
4- Reduce the deaf youth isolation.
5- Overall enhance the socioeconomic status of the deaf population.
1- Workshop on basic sign language for Gesr Center staff
2- Two workshops on embroidery, glass painting, and textile printing. Each one lasted for fifteen days
3- Exhibition of the produced materials.
